Swithland reservoir perch fishing - one last push

Wednesday the 14th of December
I didn't have time to fit in a proper session today but I could manage an hour on the bank just to see how the quiver tip rod would cope with the undertow situation, well worth testing out for future reference, the wind was just as strong as the previous day and so it would be a fair test.

I picked a tip that was a bit stiffer than I would have liked thinking that I would start there and work towards a softer one if possible, the first cast soon proved that in fact even the tip I had one was being bent past its effective angle but what really caused problems was the bank of weed which covers the margin along the entire bank. Having the tip low was essential to avoid the gusting wind but the wind was also causing the weed to rock in the swell and the tip rocked with it, more like beach fishing than perching and no use to me whatsoever, never mind it was worth a try.

Thursday the 15th of December
With the wind easing off I was once again fishing effectively on the bobbins, arriving at 2pm it was looking good with a bit of cloud cover but once again 5pm saw me biteless, good 'ere innit mister!

Friday the 16th of December
I had already decided that this was going to be my last session on the pit for a while as I fancied a few bites for a change, this time I decided on a spot that allowed me to reach the original stream bed, over the last few weeks I had covered all of the deep water bank at one time or another but just fancied one last go on this little drop off feature. Despite my best efforts once again the result was a resounding blank, the last of about nine on the trot I believe, one tough perch water.

With a very special roach water lined up for the new year I couldn't help but think that I might have missed my chance on the perch pit, looking back I can only think that I just wasn't getting on the fish, not easy with so few there anyway but there was a concentrated spell early on when bites weren't too difficult to come by, but where the hell had they gone to? Maybe I'll fit in the odd session between my longer roach trips and I certainly fancy a go in March when the perch will be at their heaviest but you can't do everything so we'll see.
