Tench fishing - on a mission at the estate lake

Saturday the 9th of June

For the first time since my Linch Hill roach sessions earlier in the year I found myself really getting my teeth into my fishing which came as something of a relief as it has been a mixed up old spring for me. At times I've felt a bit like a lost little boy wandering around with no real defined aim in life and that isn't really the way I work, I need to get my mind set on something and put the required effort in to fire myself up and at last things were falling into place and I was going for it.

After two less than hectic sessions in the week I had persuaded the good lady that I should get back for another go on Saturday and after the usual grumble about waking her up early she gave in, my usual retort to that problem is that I will be up so early that she has plenty of time to get more sleep, it never buys me much mileage to be honest.

Phil had teaken a big hit of fish on the Friday as detailed here and knowing that he was returning I left that swim free for him, it's only fair and I try to treat others as I would like to be treated myself. Instead I plonked myself down in my old favourite once again, which is the next spot along, and got a couple of rigs out into open water.

Phil arrived shortly afterwards and within a couple of hours started to pick up the odd fish which carried on fairly steadily through the day whilst my swim remained lifeless. On Phil's offer I shifted my left hand rod to within maybe ten yards of his bait but still it refused to show any sign of life whatsoever, incredible just how localised the fish were. I believe there were three other anglers on the lake and none of those had a bite either.

Nice scenery, rubbish fishing
I had the pleasure of photographing a brace of 8lbers, the best only missing 9lb by an ounce, and got my second next swim pasting of the week, that's fishing for you, if let it get to you it can ruin you, you just have to accept that it isn't your day and that the shoe will be on the other foot one day. here's the run down of Phil's day, Phil bags up

Phil left at about 7pm and not needing telling twice I moved straight into his swim, it had been a couple of hours since he had had a bite and it seemed that they had moved, I finished the day without any action and would you believe it the fish started showing in front of my original spot, the law of sod in action.
